How is the situation in your city/ country? Is there a 2nd wave yet?
Same situation like everywhere – measures are changing all the time, but overall pretty relaxed and not as strict as in other countries.
How did the atmosphere in your country change within the last months?
From accepting the measures at first to getting annoyed and angry – many protests lately about different things.
How are you and your family?
We are good.
What was the biggest challenge for you within the last months?
The hardest part was the lockdown which was way too long. The fact that you couldn’t go to the gym or do any fun activity really made me loose the enjoyment of life at some point – thank god almost everything is back to normal now.
When did you realize how serious the situation is?
When the first lockdown in winter was announced and was being extended every 2-3 weeks for another 2-3 weeks.
How did your government react to the crisis? Which measures/restrictions were taken first?
I think they reacted great. They were not so strict and didn’t lock down everything at first – took a more casual approach…then locked down and now opened almost everything again….still do some trial and error measures which I think is great. Our country was somewhere in the middle of being super strict and super relaxed….I was super happy to be stuck in NL and not another country during that time.
Are you satisfied with the measures of your government? What was good/bad?
Yes I am happy … it made sense to lock down for a while even though it was too long…. and now all is open and normal except clubs that remain closed. I don´t care about clubbing so it doesn’t affect me as much as other people. I also like that they keep things optional like wearing a mask unless you are in public transport …I think they did a great job in communicating what was going on and when to expect next updates etc.
What would you like to say to your government?
Thank you for handling it with more humanity and less discrimination than other countries.
Which sentence of a virologist/politician did you memorize the most?
I think the UK health secretary said “We must learn to live with Covid” and I fully agree….there is no way to get rid of it completely, so we better start getting our lives back and take measures to live with it – this virus will mutate forever.
Do you know anybody who was infected with COVID-19 or even died?
Yes I have many friends who had it….all survived. Just my husbands uncle died, but he got it March 2020 when things just got started and we didn’t know yet what it is…he was a priest at a church where he most likely got it 🙁
Have you already done a Coronavirus test or have you been in quarantine?
Both – for travels I had to do test and quarantine.
Are you afraid of getting infected with the Coronavirus?
No, I am not. The survival rate is so high and I would actually feel the safest to just get it one time and heal myself.
How long is/was your lockdown and what was allowed/what wasn´t?
I don´t remember but I think 3 months or more. We could go out until 9pm or 10pm, I dont remember well. Everywhere mask. For a while gyms were open and then everything closed from gyms, restaurants, massage, fun places, basically just supermarkets and alcohol places were open.
Did you spend the lockdown time with somebody and what did you do during this time?
Yes, with my husband. We got lots of new Corona hobbies – games, DIY stuff (macrame, build boats), online courses in topics that are of my interest, watch movies, painting etc.
What did you miss the most during the lockdown? What helped you?
To move around freely and to visit my family was not possible since we live abroad and far from them. It helped to stay busy in order to keep sanity and not get too bad into a depression and see friends whenever possible.
How did your work situation change within the last months (shorter hours, working from home, etc.)
Nothing changed….work from home all the time.
How did your social life (relationship/friendships/dating) change due to the Corona crisis?
Nothing changed …. we saw each other during the crisis just in smaller groups and now we still see each other but in bigger groups … Maybe it even helped to find time to talk to other friends u didn’t catch up with in a while bc all the sudden we had so much time at home to spend.
What impact has the Corona crisis on your financial situation?
Luckily none. I am lucky to work in IT industry and sales so it is a very safe industry with lots of growth and career potential. I actually earned the most I ever have in my entire work life.
Social distancing: How does your daily life look like at the moment?
For now we don`t need to distance much anymore. So my life is pretty much back to normal – everything open, bigger group gatherings are allowed. We had bday parties, housewarming parties, weddings etc.
Who are to your opinion the heroes of this crisis?
There are no heroes as it is not over yet and continues. But if I have to choose someone, then my heroes are the people who try to spread the right information and present facts rather than fake news. But of course also the nurses and doctors who worked crazy hours, didn’t get payed more, exposed themselves to the virus every day to help others when there were little information known….I have big respect for them.
What did the crisis show you?
To enjoy life in the here and now, not postpone things for too long, that we all need to wake up and become more cautious of our environment, how we treat each other …. on the other hand it also showed again how ignorant, disrespectful and stupid people are getting 🙁 there are always 2 sides to everything.
What will you appreciate more after the crisis?
Travelling is no longer taken for granted and also those cheap flights should not come back – so we think good on where we want to go and when and how long instead of every weekend hoping on another plane to another city just bc it is cheap.
Which images will you never forget?
Nurses having the print of the mask in their faces bc they wore them for hours and days…. in certain countries like Brazil the big wholes they were digging just to dump the mass bodies 🙁
Which stories/incidents/experiences touched/shattered you the most?
When someones looses someone they loved suddenly.
What are you afraid of right now?
Nothing really …. or if I have to say something, then I am scared of how the society is being split and some don`t seem to notice…. scared of stupid, ignorant and disrespectful people who just want that their opinion is accepted instead of looking from 2 different points of views, or at least accepting other opinions – live and let live!
What gives you hope?
Protests of people give me hope to get fully back to normal…. then again in the Netherlands we are pretty free and I cannot complain during all this time… for me the best country ever to have gone through this. When I heard friends tell me what is going on in their country I was like freely walking around, going to the gym, meeting friends etc.
Are you planning to travel within the next months?
Yes I am 🙂
Would you get yourself vaccinated against COVID-19?
What can we all learn from this crisis?
See above – we should learn to stick together and not be against each other…. we should learn to accept other peoples opinion….the open dialogue and arguments from each other is fine but without attacking would be great.
If you could give 2020 a headline, what would it be?
Should have been the best year ever, and ended up being the worst! Already in January 2020 3-4 bad things happened, I think the burning forests in Australia, the basketballer dying in the airplane crash, Corona kind of making its way around and more.
